Chlorella me baby!

So is the reason why Japanese people look younger than Westerners because they take more Chlorella per capita than Westerners take Vitamin C?

In my quest for Elitest health and my determination to look as young and vibrant for as long as possible, here are some of my finds on Chlorella to share with all of you who share my passion for health and beauty.

Takeda Discontinue Dasen Enzymes

Takeda are the biggest pharmaceutical company in Japan and on the 21st February they voluntarily withdrew their Dasen® anti-inflammatory enzyme product from the market in Japan. In the official press release it says:

Osaka, Japan, February 21, 2011 – Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited (“Takeda”) announced today its decision to voluntarily recall Dasen® 5 mg tablets, 10 mg tablets, and 1% granules (generic name: serrapeptase), anti-inflammatory enzyme preparations sold in Japan, starting on February 21.

In the double-blind studies that have been conducted to compare Dasen with placebo (“Studies”), no statistical significant differences were found. Based on the results of the Studies, the Committee on Reevaluation of the Pharmaceutical Affairs and Food Sanitation Council (“Committee”) of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan (“MHLW”) held a meeting on January 19, 2011 in order to discuss the possibility of categorizing Dasen as the product for the future reevaluation with additional studies to be conducted, including the contents of such studies if that is the case.

As a result, the Committee pointed out the necessity of conducting additional studies in a manner that reflects current clinical treatment practices, and to prove the efficacy of Dasen. In accordance with the instruction of the MHLW, Takeda has been studying the feasibility of conducting such studies. Takeda believes that the efficacy of Dasen would be confirmed through additional clinical trials with a revised study design, however, it has reached a conclusion that it would be difficult to conduct additional studies as requested.

This clearly illustrates the difficulty of producing laboratory style results using natural ingredients as Takeda believes their serrapeptase product works but that it’s extremely costly to verify this to clinical standards. Factors like diet do alter results as enzymes taken on an empty stomach by a raw food vegan will have less inhibiting factors to contend with than those consumed near breakfast by someone on a meat eating diet with lots of fried and diary foods.

One other factor that’s well worth noting is dosage. Vitamin C was well documented to have a different action at high dose by multiple Nobel prize winner Dr Linus Pauling. Robert Redfern, who had similar advice to that we gave earlier regarding diet inhibiting function when we spoke last May, was quick to point out today that the Dasen product was always a  light activity formula with only 10,000IU compared to BlockBuster AllClear and SerraZyme‘s 80,000IU of serrapeptase. Robert Redfern emailed us stating that he has criticized Dasen’s activity level as too low previously and that he has popularised serrapeptase after over 100,000 users reported positive results. Results that came from the 80,000iu formulation include: lung conditions, arteries, colon, MS, pain, morton’s neuroma, inflammatory problems, ENT problems, cysts, and uses on dogs, cats and horses. One of the most miraculous stories came from a cerebral palsy sufferer, Mike Tawse who continues to vocal about his results.

I don’t know Mike Tawse personally and have never met him face to face. I certainly wouldn’t bet my life on the effectiveness of serrapeptase enzymes as an anti-inflammatory. However I have used this enzyme myself as part of a recovery process. I used it first after I gave up smoking and eating meat and I did find my circulation much improved. I’ve also used in frequently as a means of speeding recovery from sports injury – I like to train martial arts so big bruises and sprains are a fairly common part of my life. It’s easy for me to test how quickly I recover with and without serrapeptase. I’ve also personally known others who’ve used serrapeptase as part of their recovery from surgeries including a hernia, a broken leg and uterine fibroid removal by myomectomy. In all cases the serrapeptase user felt they recovered faster than they expected with less pain than they anticipated.

As always my advice is to take good care of yourself! Whilst there are some arguments going on about whether one natural remedy is more useful than another, one thing we know all scientists, doctors and nutritionists agree on is that fried foods and smoking are bad for you! I believe if you approach serrapeptase from this angle, viewing it as a useful supplement to your self-care programme rather than a medicine you can turn to (it isn’t), then you’ll enjoy a lot more healthier days than you’ll suffer ill ones.

Serrapeptase enzymes are useful for detoxing parts of the body that it’s hard to clean through abstinence alone. Raw food educator, David Wolfe, uses serrapeptase as part of a protocol to combat nano-bacteria in conjunction with MSM and a highly alkaline diet. Dr. Billie J. Sahley, Ph.D says serrapeptase may positively benefit inflammatory health conditions like arthritis, headaches, bronchitis and sinusitis. Dr Hans Nieper says may serrapeptase help remove arterial plaque, reduce the chance of stroke and open constricted arteries. So whilst the Japanese may not be able to find a way of economically proving Takeda’s Dasen serrapeptase formula, there still are plenty of health educators and authorities standing behind serrapeptase enzyme use and consensus of opinion is that high activity levels are what counts.

Are EMFs Damaging Your Health?

Dr Ollie Johansson PhD is from Sweden’s Karolinska Institute. Having met with scientists from around the world and debated peer reviewed papers he has announced, as Chair of the Seletun Scientific Committee, that agreement has been reached amongst them that governments should reduce the amount of EMF electromagnetic field exposure acceptable. Common sources of these are mobile phones and mobile phone masts, wireless devices and wi-fi networks, DECT phones and now health ignorant governments are rolling out utility ‘smart’ meters which blanket whole neighbourhoods in EMFs. Scientists warn that potentially millions are exposed to conditions which could cause cancer, neurological and reproductive issues.

In particular, pregnant women and young children should be especially protected.

Announcing this unusual and hugely important consensus of opinion amongst top international scientists, Dr Johannson made this video statement:

In the UK, Powerwatch have said they will give more technical details later today as information comes.

CEO2 – Climate Business Leaders wanted

We were passed the following Press Release and wanted to share it as it may be of value to you or you may be able to share it to someone who can take action upon it:

UN-climate talks in Bonn ahead: WWF and Allianz are calling on the internet-community worldwide to test climate business strategies online

27.05.2010 - While politics and a lot of companies are losing precious time in climate protection, every user can now play the online-game CEO2 launched by financial service provider Allianz and WWF (World Wide Fund For Nature). One can slip into the role of a CEO and show which business strategies work out to reduce carbon, reduce risks and increase the long-term profitability. The aim of the game is to identify which investments at what time will set the course for a profitable growth in the low carbon economy of the future. CEO2 shows the possible impacts of business decisions in the chemical, automobile, utility and finance industry over the next 20 year. The success of the player is measured according to the development of the stock price and the carbon emissions.

Ahead of the UN-climate negotiations, politics and business are hesitant when it comes to climate change. Although according to RECIPE (Report on Energy and Climate Policy in Europe) drawn up by the Potsdam Institute for climate impact research and supported by Allianz and WWF, Europe especially could profit from climate protection if it sets the framework for middle- and long-term reductions of greenhouse gas emissions.

After 2020 the window which is open for ambitious global CO2 reductions until 2050 will close entirely. The reductions are necessary to limit the temperature rise below 2 degrees Celsius compared to preindustrial levels and avoid dangerous consequences of climate change. A cost-optimal mitigation strategy for the transformation of the energy sector alone requires an increase of investments in low-emission technologies to an annual level of 400 to 1,000 billion USD by 2030, most of which would have to be provided by the financial markets and industry.

CEO2 has been developed by Allianz and WWF to show long-term connections of investment cycles and the remaining leeway for strategies and decisions in a playful way so that a broad public audience can access these issues. The game is available at www.ceo2-game.com for free. It has been developed and implemented by the Berlin-based communications agency LGM Interactive (http://www.lgm-interactive.com).

Update on Amnesty’s Shell Advert

We recently shared how Amnesty UK are raising awareness of environmental concerns about Shell’s operations in the Niger Delta, Africa. They’d asked people to donate for them to run an advert in London and National Press on the day of Shell’s AGM so that shareholders would be reminded to think of both sides of the equation, people and planet vs progress and profit. The hope was that Shell shareholders would press management to up it’s standards. After all the company has record profits. It can afford to be careful with what it does.

Although the Financial Times dropped the Amnesty Shell ad at the last minute, several other publications accepted it. Amnesty have created this short video to summarise the issues that Shell needs to address:

Shell in the Niger Delta from Amnesty International on Vimeo.

If you have views on this share it on Twitter with the tag #shellagm, or send it directly to @shelldotcom. You can also follow the Protect The Human Shell Ad blog by Amnesty. We’re still hopeful that Shell can take the responsibility it’s privileged position requires and contribute it’s wonders to the world in a fashion that doesn’t harm people, animals or endanger the planet for future generations.

Take a Share in asking Shell to clean up with Amnesty UK

The Royal Dutch Shell company is one of Britain’s biggest corporations. It’s exploits enable many wonders of the world in which we live today and it’s vast cash flows fund pensions around the UK. At the same time, Shell is noted in many environmental fiascos around the world. As it’s annual meeting approaches, Amnesty UK are looking to remind shareholders in Shell that the black gold has a dark side and that bumper profits mean we need to push bosses to enforce better ecological and social standards through their system. This short trailer from Amnesty explains the problem well:

There is a full report by Amnesty International on Shell’s activity in the Niger Delta in pdf that you can read if you want to examine the situation more fully.

In order to remind Shell’s shareholders that Shell’s recent bumper profits have come at a huge cost to the environment, to local populations and wildlife and to urge the shareholders to insist on higher standards from management, Amnesty UK is looking to take out a full page advert in a UK national paper. They’d like you to buy a share in this advert as £10 will buy a 1cm2 section of prime publishing real estate for the following ad:

Please participate in whatever way you can. If you can support the ad financially it will help. If you can’t, ask someone who can. If you are a shareholder or have a pension that is investing in Shell, start letting Shell know you need them to do better. You can email Shell CEO, Peter Vosser, and ask him how Shell is living up to words like these which were taken from their own website:

“As we work to help meet the world’s growing energy needs we aim to bring benefits to local communities and reduce impacts of our operations”,A career with Shell is more than just a day job. It’s an opportunity to join a company who tackle real world problems”.

Elvis Presley died of chronic constipation

Today’s Daily Mail reports on a story which isn’t news to most colonic irrigation therapists – Elvis Presley died of chronic constipation according to his doctor. When I first took a clinic based colonic hydrotherapy treatment course as a detoxification, the nurse administering it at the Lynden Hill Clinic gave a lot of insight on Elvis’ diet. It made me consider my own food choices better and through that 10 session programme I came to understand in much more detail how foods affected my moods, health and wellbeing.

Constipation isn’t healthy. It’s very common yet most people ignore their symptoms. If you do that toxins can easily accumulate in your system and turn into something far worse. Colon cancer kills far too many people every year. According to Cancer Research UK, lifetime chances of contracting colorectal cancer are 1 in 16 for men and 1 in 20 for women.

To avoid constipation here are some simple steps:

  • Drink more water and limit your intake of dehydrating drinks like tea, coffee and alcohol
  • Increase the amount of salad you eat to at least the size of a cereal bowl with each dinner. It’s high fibre and water content keeps you going and all the vitamins and antioxidants help reduce toxicity
  • Reduce your intake of dairy products. These become sticky when passing through the colon and slow you down
  • Avoid white processed bread and rice. These have little fibre and will stick to the insides rather than pass through as nature intended, resulting in constipation
  • If you are constipated, strongly restrict your intake of meat or abstain until you regain regularity. Meat has no fibre in it and also carries the highest amount of toxins. Meat waste makes bad bacteria and other pollutants as it passes through, however if it does so slowly the chances of these being reabsorbed into you and damaging your immune are high
  • Avoid fizzy drinks, whether beer, lemonade, cola or fizzy water. The bubbles cause gas that has to come out somewhere and that gas’ natural inclination to rise rather than get pushed down makes it another obstacle to elimination

Using these dietary modifications is simple and anyone can do them at no cost. To get yourself moving initially, do also look at Digestion Stimulator and Oxypowder. If you are shy or you have not the money needed for a health clinic course of colon hydrotherapy, use a home enema kit. It’s quick, easy and painless, makes no mess and you’ll feel great afterwards. It’s normally a lot less smelly than most people normally are since using water to escort everything out quickly reduces the bad odour.

Blessed Herbs Colon Cleansing Kit

Blessed Herbs Colon Cleansing Kit

Lastly, Colon Cleanses like the Blessed Herbs Colon Cleanse Kit, enable you to take a full colon detox. Just like any pipe, the colon is prone to getting blocked and this is your pipe cleaner! It uses herbs to stimulate movement, antioxidants to mitigate the toxins a clogged bowel gives off and healing clays to remove the built up debris. Since having first done one, I’ve found my skin has become much clearer, my energy levels and moods much more stable and my thinking sharper. I also found I didn’t need to eat anywhere near as much to feel full since after cleaning up, all the nutrients in my food was getting in properly.

Elvis’ death was a great tragedy for the world of entertainment and a testimony to how social norms and pride can lead a person to ruin. Like his doctor says in the Daily Mail article, he could still be here now if only he’d taken treatment. Listen to your body and take action if it needs it.

Powerlines and childhood leukaemia

The following was shared to me by Power Watch and originally published on their EMF Fields news website. I’m reposting it here as I feel it’s an important point more people need to be aware of whilst choosing a home to buy or rent.

Another study, published in March 2010, by Malagoli, shows an increased risk of childhood leukaemia near powerlines.

Children were 5 times more likely to develop ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukaemia) if they lived in magnetic field levels above 0.1 microtesla near powerlines.

The evidence for an association between powerfrequency magnetic fields and childhood cancer continues to grow. While many of the studies have been criticised, and indeed some have had shortcomings, it is difficult to ignore every one.

Magnetic fields over 0.1 microtesla in the home are also produced by house wiring and electrical appliances. We recommend, as a precautionary measure, that these fields are reduced, especially in children’s bedrooms, where their immune system is strengthened during sleep.

The paper can be found on Pubmed.
